A panel titled “No to Violence Against Women” was organized by the Iğdır University Tuzluca Vocational School Justice Program. The panel, which took place at the Karaağaç Campus July 15 Martyrs Conference Hall, was attended by Iğdır University Vice President Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu, Iğdır Governor Enver Ünlü’s wife Sema Ünlü, Tuzluca Vocational School Director Dr. Lecturer Mubin Koyuncu, institution managers, academics and students.
The panel, moderated by Tuzluca Vocational School Justice Program Lecturer Av. Senem Önder Özbakır, Av. Deniz Alkoç, Iğdır Provincial Police Department Domestic and Violence Against Women Bureau Chief Deputy Commissioner Ehet Akmaz, Family, Labor and Social Services Provincial Directorate social worker Özlem Sarıkaya and Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) Provincial Representative Hayrunisa Bakkıran participated as speakers.
Speaking first in the panel, Deputy Commissioner Ehet Akmaz provided information about the current situation in our province by mentioning the authority of law enforcement officers and the work being done in preventing violence against women.
Following Akmaz, Attorney Deniz Alkoç spoke about the concept of alimony and touched on the problems experienced in practice. Alkoç also touched on the discussions on temporary alimony and provided information about the new draft law on alimony.
Following Alkoç, Social Worker Özlem Sarıkaya spoke. Sarıkaya spoke about the education and awareness projects for women and the work carried out by the Iğdır Family, Labor and Social Services Provincial Directorate against violence against women.
Following Sarıkaya, Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) Iğdır Provincial Representative Hayrunnisa Bakkıran concluded her speech by touching on the importance of the role of civil society organizations in preventing violence.
The “No to Violence Against Women” panel ended with the Q&A session following the speeches and the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the panelists by Sema Ünlü, the wife of Iğdır Governor Enver Ünlü, and our University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Ali Karavelioğlu.
